Book Week 2025

Book an Adventure!

We are so close to Book Week, and this year's theme is: Book an Adventure!

I love Book Week because it is yet another occassion to celebrate our love of reading. It is another chance to share our love with others. A time to dress up as our favourite characters and have fun, to pretend for the night that we are living in our favourite stories.

Reading is magical. The possibilities are endless, and one can never have enough books. We can live a thousand lives, meet a world of new people, create new friendships, and explore entire universes beyond our own.

Reading is a gateway for the mind and soul, an escape from the bleakness that is often reality, and a key to an unlimited treasure trove of knowledge.

Children. Adults. Book Week is a time for everyone to just enjoy expressing their love of literature of all forms. Growing up, I had many favourite books including, but in no way limited to, Elmer (series), Spot, and Rainbow Fish.

My list of books I revisit continues to grow. There are far too many to name, but a few that spring to mind are: Heartstopper by Alice Oseman, The Mirrorworld Chronicles by Cornelia Funke, Obsidian Mirror trilogy by Catherine Fisher, and the Simon Snow trilogy by Rainbow Rowell.

I have many more favourite authors including Amanda Hocking. I have widened the diversity of my bookshelves through the inclusion of indie authors Brett J. Cole, Alexander Ashwin, and Cassandra Knight, with many more to come.

Alexander's 'Silent Struggles', while in no form a light read, is a worthy and valuable book. It sheds a light on the pain and struggles faced by men, paired with the stigma tied to experiences women fight to have recognised also. I highly recommend reading this book, but be sure to read the trigger warnings.

I adored Brett's children's stories, which explore complex and difficult experiences and emotions in accessible and relatable ways for children as well as adults.

Cassandra Knight is an incredible and supportive person, and I cannot wait to read her YA fantasy trilogy, Scientia. It is at the top of my TBR pile.

All three can be found on Facebook by these names, and if highly recommend following their pages and supporting each.

I have prepared this year and have costumes ready to go. I am going all out for Book Week this year (since I finally remembered to prepare in time), and I cannot wait for the story to unfold.

Where will your adventure take you?
